I've been a little busy lately. So I haven't had a chance to continue with a few posts. One on St. Paul's definition of Love and the continuing history of the early Church.
But I thought this short sermon of Fr. Goring was great and to the point.
He spoke about songs as love letters to God. It is true and here in the USA we have a famous Christian pop music station called K-Love. They play Christian Pop Music. It is very good.
Here is some examples I think are great pop Christian songs.
This last song (below) I find interesting because I am sure the author and singer never meant it to be Catholic. But it coincides with a traditional prayer to the Blessed Mother, who is courageously looking for lost souls:

Antiphon. -- Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the Sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?
My soul doth magnify the Lord.
Because He hath regarded the humility of His handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

And His mercy is from generation unto generations to them that fear Him.

"Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?" Is taken from the Song of Songs. It is traditionally understood as Our Blessed Mother. She is the queen of heaven and has at Her disposal the army of angels and saints in heaven.
The female voice being passionate that she will send out an army for you, to save your soul, the voice of the Blessed Virgin. Like at the Wedding Feast at Cana, She sees our needs. Our Mother finds a way to get special graces for those who turn to Her. And not only that, She seeks us out, like the song says, at the least whispered prayer for help.
In his book, The Glories of Mary, Saint Alphonsus de Liguori tells of the great power Mary has to help us.
"We read in the life of the servant of God, Sister Seraphina of Capri, that once during the novena of the Assumption of Mary she asked our Blessed Lady for the conversion of a thousand sinners, but afterwards thought that she had asked too much; and then the Blessed Virgin appeared to her, and corrected her for her ungrounded anxiety, saying, 'Why dost thou fear?
"Is it that I am not sufficiently powerful to obtain from my Son the conversion of a thousand sinners? See, I have already obtained the favor.' With these words, she took her in spirit to heaven, and there showed her innumerable souls which had deserved hell, but had been saved through her intercession, and were already enjoying eternal happiness."
I am sure the artists who produced this song would be shocked at my interpretation. But I think the Holy Spirit guides some artists at times without them knowing.
